Dietetics and Nutrition

Katherine Parker, MS, RD

Katherine Parker MS, RD is a registered dietitian and an exercise physiologist working in the private sector of the Sacramento and Yolo County communities. Katherine’s career began with a degree in Nutrition Science at the University of California, Davis and Master’s of Science in Physical Education (Exercise Physiology) while at California State University, Sacramento. Her education was completed with an internship in dietetics at Oregon Health Sciences University. This scope of work gives Katherine the ideal balance of science and application for nutrition counseling.

Katherine helps individuals optimize their relationship with food, resulting in better health and physical performance. Some of her most challenging clientele include national and world ranked cyclists, various Para Olympians, and individuals coping with eating disorders. Corporations such as WellCall and Public Health Institute also consult with Katherine on a regular basis.

Prior to opening her private practice, she worked as the Nutrition Research Manager of General Clinical Research Center and the Western Human Nutrition Research Center. During that time, the American Dietetic Association selected Katherine as the Recognized Young Dietitian of the Year. Katherine has also been an invited presenter for the American College of Sports Medicine and the American Dietetic Association, and has received the Instructor of the Year Award for the CSU Sacramento Dietetic Internship. Although she enjoys teaching future dietitians, her primary interest is focused upon helping patients understand the physiological needs related to eating through the teaching of hunger and appetite regulation of the body.

Personal Approach and Philosophy

I use a client-centered approach allowing for active participation in your nutritional care. I educate my clients on the true function of foods so that they no longer believe that foods are either “good” or “bad” for them. Rather, that my clients learn to eat a balance of all foods. Using the American Dietetic Association Diet Exchange System, I guide you to a healthy nutritional lifestyle, examining your physiological needs as well as your lifestyle commitments. This provides you with the confidence and freedom to enjoy your life, rather than letting a pre-set diet plan control your life.

Let a professional help you redefine your relationship with nutrition.
